Lin Heping Heads a Delegation to Visit Indonesia and the Philippines

 Lin Heping, secretary of the FNU party committee, led a delegation for educational and cultural communication and exchanged with institutions in Indonesia and the Philippines from May 14 to 21, 2017. During the visit, the delegation achieved substantial results in terms of deepening cooperation in running schools and academic research and integrating overseas resources, etc.

 On behalf of the university, Mr. Lin had in-depth discussion with the University of Al Azhar Indonesia (UAI) and the Angeles University Foundation Philippines (AUF) over issues including deepening cooperation in training Chinese majors, setting up an Indonesian gallery and promoting new measures, such as president scholarship, to attract foreign students to study at FNU. The delegation also visited and expressed warm greetings to the faculty and students of the Confucius institutes of UAI and AUF and exchanged views with local Chinese teachers and representatives from Gadjah Mada University. He also answered questions concerning campus life at FNU and scholarship application and encouraged local students to come to study at FNU.

 While visiting the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Indonesia, the delegation reached a collaborative intention with the center regarding academic exchanges on the Belt and Road studies, exchange visits, etc., which was an expansion of collaborative fields between FNU and Indonesian research institutes. Many experts on Indonesian cultural studies accepted the invitation of the Indonesian Research Center of FNU to be consultant or work as researcher at the center. They will work together with the center to conduct collaborative research, thus contributing to deepening bilateral cooperation between China and Indonesia.

 In the Philippines, the delegation visited Chiang Kai Shek College. Both sides discussed issues concerning training students to better meet enterprise needs, strengthening cooperation in basic education and setting up joint overseas educational institutions. Both sides exchanged views and reached consensus on matters concerning cooperation planning, framework, staff and funds.

 The delegation also visited Yayasan Bukit Mulia Indah in Indonesia, Philippine Hui'an Association and met with many public figures: Counselor Zhou Bin from the Culture and Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia; the Yang sisters, managing directors of FNU; Mr. Tony Chandra, vice council chairman of Yayasan Bukit Mulia Indah, Mr. Philips Vermonte, executive director of the Indonesian International Strategy and Research Center; Mr. Jose de Venecia Jr., former Speakerof the House of Representatives of the Philippines, Philippine president's special envoy for inter-cultural dialogue and chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP); Dr. Lucio Tan, leader of overseas Chinese in the Philippines, Permanent Honorary Chairman of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), board chairman of Philippine Airlines and board chairman of Chiang Kai Shek College; Francis Chua, Chairman Emeritus of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Honorary Chairman of FFCCCII, Founding Chairman of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce Philippine and business consultant of Philippine APEC; and Dr. Peter Ty, Board Chairman of FNU Minnan Science and Technology Institute.  

 At these meetings, various topics were discussed and consensus was reached concerning the establishment of Indonesian and Philippine alumni associations, setting up Chinese teacher training programs, cooperation in petrochemical studies, establishment of overseas campuses, the development of Indonesian research center and strategic branding of the Belt and Road Forum. Mr. Lin Heping expressed sincere gratitude for their continuous support and invited them to attend the celebration marking the110th anniversary of FNU.

 The delegation received warm welcome from local universities, research institutions and Chinese associations, members of FNU school board and alumni. The visits were covered by local Chinese news agencies.
