On August 4 and 5, the 18thAnnual National Year Books Conference, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and organized by Social Sciences Academic Press and the Qinghai Academy of Social Sciences, was held at Xining, Qinghai Province. Governmental leaders, honored guests and about 500 experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, academies of social sciences at local levels, universities and government research institutes participated in the conference. Among the participants were Wang Weiguang, president and party secretary of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Wang Jianjun, deputy secretary of Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and governor of Qinghai Province, Wu Shangzhi, deputy director of the State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Li Peilin, party member and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang Ximing, standing member of Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and director of Qinghai Provincial Publicity Department, She Zhiyuan, director of National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and Xie Shouguang, secretary of the Party Committee and president of Social Sciences Academic Press.

The conference centered on “the 20-year professionalization of Year Books”. At the opening ceremony, the 8thChinese “Excellent Year Books Award” was presented. Annual Report on Overall Competitiveness of China’s Provincial Economy (2014-2015) by Fujian Normal University Branch of the National Research Center of Comprehensive Economic Competitiveness won the prizes of top one economic book (2016 version) and top six comprehensive book (2016 version), out of over 400 competing year books. It is a hard-won great honor for a local university like FNU, as most of the top 15 economic books came either from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences or from research institutes of universities sponsored by Project 985. It speaks volume of the high quality of the research achievements on competitiveness. At the conference, 60 more year books other than those produced by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences were authorized to use the identification of “Academic Publishing Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences” in 2018. Two books from FNU were on the list: the blue book Annual Report on Overall Competitiveness of China’s Provincial Economy (2016-2017) and the yellow book Report on the Group of Twenty (G20) National Innovation Competitiveness Development (2017-2018).

On the ceremony to pay tribute to “the 20-year professionalization of Year Books”, Professor Huang Maoxing, Dean of the School of Economics of FNU, and Li Mingrong, adjunct professor of FNU, were served tribute. Professor Huang Maoxing gave a highly-rated acknowledgement speech at the conference on behalf of all the 20 honored figures. He was also invited to give a key-note speech at the panels “Think tank construction and digital resource construction” and “International dissemination of the results of China's think tanks” and to give the summary speech at the general assembly.

Since the National Research Center of Comprehensive Economic Competitiveness launched its branch in FNU in 2009, the university has achieved three major series of research achievements, namely, the blue books of overall competitiveness of provincial economy, the green books of environmental competitiveness and the yellow books of national innovation competitiveness. Over the years, the FNU branch has published more than 30 books in five categories: Annual Report on Overall Competitiveness of China’s Provincial Economy (blue book), Report on China’s Provincial Environmental Competitiveness (green book), Report on the Group of Twenty (G20) National Innovation Competitiveness (yellow book), Report on Global Innovation Competitiveness (yellow book) and Report on Global Environmental Competitiveness (green book). These books have produced very positive response both at home and abroad.
