FNU Co-sponsors the Academic Conference on Hakka Ancestral Culture in the New Era

On December 2, the Academic Conference on Hakka Ancestral Culture in the New Era, co-sponsored by Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development of Cross-Strait Relations, the Center for Studies of Fujian and Taiwan of FNU, the Center for Taiwan Studies of Xiamen University, and the Research Institute for Cross-Strait Integrated Development of Fujian Province, and co-organized by the Cross-Strait Cultural Study and Exchange Base of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, Fujian Provincial Wuyuan Culture Research Association, and the Hakka Genealogy Museum, was held in Shanghang, a county in Fujian Province. More than 70 experts and scholars on both sides of the Taiwan Strait who research into Hakka culture attended the event.

At the opening ceremony, Yang Yizhou, vice president of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, Liu Guoshen, director of Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development of Cross-Strait Relations of Xiamen University, Li Xiaorong, director of the Center for Studies of Fujian and Taiwan and dean of College of Chinese Language and Literature of FNU, Wang Rigen, president of Fujian Provincial Wuyuan Culture Research Association and a professor at Xiamen University, and Xu Feng, deputy secretary of the Shanghang County Party Committee, delivered speeches respectively.

The theme of the conference is “Hakka Ancestral Land and Chinese Cultural Inheritance in the New Era.” The participating delegates conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges about topics like “Hakka Immigration and Reclamation in Taiwan,” “Origin and Inheritance of Cross-Strait Hakka Culture,” “Cross-Strait Hakka Genealogy Docking and Clan Association,” “Cross-Strait Hakka Historical Sites and Protection of Cultural Heritage,” “Promoting Hakka Culture in Contemporary Times and Forging a Strong Sense of Community for People across the Strait.” Experts and scholars present agreed that the Hakka compatriots on both sides of the Strait play an important role in the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and that they should keep pace with the trend, safeguard the overall interests of the Chinese nation, uphold national and ethnic unity, and pool their strength to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
