On September 17th, FNU held an opening ceremony to welcome its new cohort of students both online and offline. Around 300 people, including school leaders, heads of all the departments and colleges, and the representatives of the new students, attended the ceremony at the main venue of the library auditorium on Qishan Campus. 24 offline branch venues were set by all the colleges for people to watch simultaneous live streaming. The ceremony was presided over by Tu Rong, Deputy Secretary of FNU Party Committee.
The opening ceremony kicked off with our national anthem. Professor Wang Changping, President of FNU, gave an enthusiastic speech, titled “Youth is the right time to set sail for a new journey”. On behalf of all the staff and students at FNU, he warmly welcomed all the new students of the class of 2022 to join the big family of FNU, and briefly introduced the glorious development course of FNU for over a hundred year. He then proposed three eager expectations for the new students. First, the students should practice often and make constant progress. He hoped that they will keep our country’s most fundamental interests in mind, base their individual ideals on the national interest, keep pace with the times, take the first step in the college and every step of life seriously and steadfastly, align their personal ambitions with the grand goal of our country, and write their own youthful stories in the course of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Second, the students should study hard and delve hard. He hoped that following the examples of the seniors at FNU and guided by the history, spirit and character of FNU with a history of over a century, they will step out of their comfort zones, break through their limitations, know how to, learn to and be able to bear hardships, and make unremitting endeavors on the way forward with the spirit of bearing hardships. Third, the students should innovate and create their youth. The president hoped that they will lay a solid foundation for innovation and practice with profound and solid learning, look for the first opportunity for growth and development with the spirit of learning through inquiring into everything, lead the time with the pioneering spirit, perform the best in the track of youth, and make efforts to be standard-bearers and pioneers to promote our national and human progress.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Huang Zhiqun, Doctoral Supervisor of School of Geographical Sciences, Recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and member of the Leading Talents in Science & Technology Innovation under the Ten Thousand Talent Program of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, Doctor Li Ke from College of Life Sciences, and Cai Xinying from School of Communication gave a speech respectively on behalf of the teachers, the old students and the new ones.
Later on, the school leaders put on the school badges for the representatives of the new students, and then all the teachers and students present sang the Anthem of Fujian Normal University in unison, and the opening ceremony concluded amid enthusiastic applause.
