The conference, organized by the School of Geographical Sciences and the School of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology, was held at our university from April 7 to 9. Liu Yu, director of the Sub-Society on Dendrochronology of the Geographical Society of China (GSC), and other 36 members of the sub-society, including 8 deputy directors, Zheng Jiajian, vice president of FNU, and relevant executives from the School of Geographical Sciences and the School of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology attended the event.

In his speech, Zheng Jiajian stated that dendrochronology plays an irreplaceable role in such research areas as geography, ecology, geology and climate change, and that FNU is an important talent training base and scientific research institute in the related fields of dendrochronology in the southeast of China. Holding this conference to share the research findings and deepen the exchange and mutual learning will undoubtedly improve the level of our national dendrochronology research and application, and significantly enhance the ability to serve the national strategic decision-making on responding to climate change, Zheng said.

In his remarks, Liu Yu stated that the establishment of the GSC Sub-Society on Dendrochronology was a landmark in the history of dendrochronology study in China, and that the conference will certainly further promote the study. He reviewed its evolution, underlined its contribution to the study worldwide, and expressed his hopes for the study and the training of young talents.

The conference was divided into three sessions: the sub-society’s working conference, young researchers’ work reports, and the scientific field trip. After the conference, the experts present went on an expedition of ecological environment to the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland Reserve.
