The 2023 National Seminar on Academic Degree and Graduate Education in Domestic Normal Universities was held on October 13th. Over 160 people attended the opening ceremony, including Wang Yang, member of the Party Leadership Members Group of the Education Working Committee of Fujian Provincial Committee, member of the Party Leadership Group of and Deputy Director-General of Department of Education of Fujian Province, Du Zengji, Vice President of Jiangsu Normal University, An Xuebin, Vice President of Yunnan Normal University, Yang Ziju, Vice President of Hainan Normal University, Dong Jingrong, Vice President of Chongqing Normal University, Tong Yuping, Vice President of Shenyang Normal University, Zhang Wei, Vice President of Yili Normal University, Sun Jinwei, Vice President of Anyang Normal University, Liu Guoqing, Vice President of Shaoxing University, Aotegen, Vice President of Hulunbuir University, Wei Shaohua, former Vice President of Yancheng Institute of Technology and professor of Nanjing Normal University, Mo Shaoqun, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the National Seminar on Academic Degree and Graduate Education in Domestic Normal Universities, Huang Wenhua, Director of the Degree Office in Fujian, FNU President Wang Changping, FNU Vice President Liu Sanya, as well as heads and management personnel of graduate school/department/division, postgraduate supervisors, persons in charge of the graduate educational work, and graduate education administrators from 47 domestic normal universities. The opening ceremony was presided over by Liu Sanya.
On behalf of Department of Education of Fujian Province, Wang Yang warmly welcomed the leaders in charge of graduate education and graduate educators from the normal universities across the country who attended the seminar. He pointed out that the Party and the country attach great importance to graduate education. In recent years, Fujian Province has focused on the high-quality development of bringing out the full potential of graduate education, pushed forward the adjustment of graduate disciplines and specialties, promoted the work of normal universities in terms of degree and graduate education according to different types at different levels, and carried out the action plan for the revitalization of teacher education in depth, and graduate education in normal universities has taken on a thriving look, Wang said. He hoped that the participating experts and scholars will continue caring about and supporting the development of graduate education in Fujian Province, and pass on their experience to accelerate the construction of Fujian into a strong province in higher education.
On behalf of FNU, Wang Changping extended sincere greetings to the participating experts and scholars, and introduced the overall development of the university and the basic situation of graduate education. He said that graduate education shoulders the vital mission of high-level talent training and innovation, that it is an important cornerstone of national development and social progress, and also a significant manifestation of the level and quality of a university’s education, and that the seminar will surely bring new ideas and new inspirations for the development of degree and graduate education in domestic normal universities. He hoped to conduct more extensive and in-depth exchanges and cooperation with other normal universities, and work together to write a new chapter for the high-quality development of degree and graduate education in the new era.
At the seminar, Zhong Binglin, member of the National Education Advisory Committee, former President of the Chinese Society of Education and former President of Beijing Normal University, made a report via a video link, entitled “Promoting the High-quality Development of Graduate Education”, and Tong Yuping, Liu Guoqing, and Guo Longjian, executive Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Tianjin Normal University, made keynote speeches respectively. In the group discussion session, some representatives made keynote speeches, and all the participants actively shared their ideas and conducted heated discussions on how to nurture the brand of graduate education in domestic normal universities and improve the quality of talent training.
