On December 7, the first carbon sink deal of soil and water conservation project in China was smoothly closed in Changting County, under the support of Fujian Engineering and Research Center of Forest Carbon Inventory (of FNU). About 80 people attended the signing ceremony, including leaders from the Ministry of Water Resources, the Management Bureau of Taihu Lake Basin, Fujian Provincial Department of Water Resources, Longyan City, Changting County and relevant municipal departments, as well as reporters from CCTV News Channel and other media. The heads of the Science and Technology Department, Industry and Education Integration Development Center and relevant technical experts of our university attended the event.

The carbon sink project would be carried out in the small watershed of Luodi River in Hetian Town, Changting County, guided by the Ministry of Water Resources and implemented by Fujian Provincial Department of Water Resources. The FNU, together with the Soil and Water Conservation Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Fujian Monitoring Station of Soil and Water Conservation, provides compilation and certification in terms of methodology; the School of Geographical Sciences and the School of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology of the FNU offer service in project design and carbon sink monitoring; the Longyan Municipal Water Conservancy Bureau and the Changting Soil and Water Conservation Center provided comprehensive support for the project, while the trading service is guaranteed by Xiamen Carbon Emission Trading Center. The total volume of this transaction is 100,000 tons, with a total transaction amount of 1.8 million yuan. The successful carbon trading of this soil and water conservation project is a result of our university's long-term leveraging of disciplinary advantages to assist in the expansion and improvement of the Changting Experience in soil erosion control. It also represents a significant practical contribution of our university to local economic and social development.
