Publicity Campaign on Translation History of Red China by CFL Attracts Media Attention

Recently, the publicity campaign on translation history of red China, on the theme of Rediscovering Xu Chongxin in Decoding Translation History of Red China”, launched by the College of Foreign Languages (CFL), attracted the attention of mainstream media including Fujian Daily and Fujian Media Group.

Since the campaign on Party history learning and education was launched, the Party committee of CFL has been innovating forms and enriching carriers to actively explore the party history learning and education with the characteristics of foreign languages. Through delving into the Party part in the history of FNU, CFL Party committee led efforts to compile the six-volume Translation History of Red China (1902-1979) and established a publicity mission of teachers and students to state the historical contributions of the senior translators of CFL, and expound on the important role translation has played in the history of China since the May 4th movement.

A series of publicity activities on translation history of red China, on the theme of Rediscovering Xu Chongxin in Decoding Translation History of Red China”, were recently carried out at Wenyuan, NO.5 Lequn Road, Yantai Mountain. More than 50 people attended the event, including Xu Youqun, the firstborn son of Mr. Xu Chongxin, Li Qihui, Deputy Secretary of CFL Party committee, Yue Feng, Director of the Department of Translation, Liu Yin, Director of the Department of Business English, the team of CFL that compiled the Translation History of Red China (1902-1979) and student representatives.

Prof. Xu Chongxin, former Director of the Department of Compilation and Translation of CFL of FNU, is truly a representative of translators engaged in the translation of Red China. Xu joined the CPC in 1942 and took part in the underground revolutionary work. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he oversaw the translation of the 40th Volume of the Complete Works of Marx and Engels, reviewed the 15th Volume of the Complete Works of Lenin, and translated numerous United Nations documents and literary and historical works. Xu completed his major works at his former residence, Wenyuan on the Lequn road in Yantai Mountain.

During the publicity campaign, Associate Prof. Liu Yin, chief editor of the Translation History of Red China (1902-1979) (volume of New China), and the six students who participated in the compilation, introduced a group of translation theory and practice workers represented by Xu, who made contributions to New China by spreading the theories of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin in China and showing the new look and political stance of China to the rest of the world. Liu and the students also shared their personal experiences and insights in the process of research and compilation.
