Fifth Forum on Contemporary Literary and Critical Theory Co-hosted by Fujian Normal University

The forum was held in Nanping, Fujian, from March 7 to 10, co-sponsored by Fujian Normal University, the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), and the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, and organized by Wuyi University and the Center for Literary and Critical Theory Research of Fujian Normal University.Distinguished attendees included Zhang Jiang, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS); Nan Fan, former President of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences; Ding Guoqi, Director of the Institute of Literature at CASS; Wu Chengzhen, President of Wuyi University; Liao Bin, Vice President of Wuyi University; Liu Xiaoxin, Vice President of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences; and Wang Wending, former Vice President of our university. More than 30 scholars from institutions such as CASS, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Jilin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, Hangzhou Normal University, Fujian Normal University, and WuyiUniversity participated in the event.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Wang Wending. Wu Chengzhen delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizers, followed by a keynote address by Zhang Jiang. Thematic presentations were given by Nan Fan, Ding Guoqi, Zhang Fugui (Professor at the School of Literature, Jilin University),Cheng Guangwei (Professor at the School of Literature, Renmin University of China), Ma Tao (Associate Research Fellow at CASS), and Zhang Pinruan (Professor at Zhuzi Academy, Wuyi University). Symposium keynote speeches were delivered by Chen Xiaoming (Professor at the Department of Chinese, Peking University), Lin Gang (Professor at the Department of Chinese, Sun Yat-sen University), Wang Guangming (Distinguished Professor at Fujian Normal University), Hong Zhigang (Professor at the School of Humanities, Hangzhou Normal University), and Xu Yong (Professor at theDepartment of Chinese, Xiamen University). Centering on the theme “The Tradition and Contemporary Construction of Chinese Hermeneutics”, the forum facilitated in-depth discussions on “Theoretical Development of Contemporary Hermeneutics”,“The Chinese Tradition of Hermeneutics”, and “Zhu Xi’s Classical Hermeneutics”. Participating scholars put forward numerous insightful perspectives andinterpretations.
