On March 18, 2026, the inauguration ceremony for the Runyi Scholarship and the Bingyi Education Fund was held at the Chongxin Lecture Hall on the Cangshan Campus of Fujian Normal University (FJNU). The event brought together Wei Yiyong, a retired associate professor from the College of Foreign Languages and her husband Huang Guanglin; Zheng Jiajian, President of FJNU; Chen Xiaohong, Deputy Secretary of the FJNU Party Committee; as well as representatives from the university's Publicity Department, United Front Work Department, Faculty Affairs Department, Student Affairs Department, Retirement Services Office, the Seniors University, and the College of Foreign Languages.
The ceremony paid tribute to Professor Wei Yiyong's more than six decades of dedication to FJNU, honoring her unwavering commitment to education and her continued service to senior education even after retirement. The significance of the two funds in supporting talent cultivation at the college and the development of the Seniors University was also affirmed.
In her remarks, Professor Wei Yiyong shared her lifelong journey of academic pursuit and devotion to teaching, expressing her deep affection for FJNU. She explained that her donation of one million yuan to establish the two funds was intended to support underprivileged students in their academic and personal growth, and to boost the development of the Seniors University. Through this gift, she hopes to pass on her love for education and spirit of dedication to future generations.
President Zheng Jiajian, speaking on behalf of the university, expressed sincere gratitude for Professor Wei's generous act. He noted that the donation represents not only material support but also spiritual encouragement and motivation. He urged the students who will benefit from the funds to always carry a grateful heart, to study diligently, and to develop solid skills. In doing so, he said, they can give back to their alma mater and contribute to society with outstanding achievements, thereby carrying forward the educational commitment and spirit of dedication embodied by Professor Wei.
During the ceremony, President Zheng Jiajian and Deputy Party Secretary Chen Xiaohong presented Professor Wei Yiyong with an honorary certificate, as well as flowers and a commemorative plaque inscribed with the words "The Light of Runyi." The calligraphy on the plaque was personally created by Luo Liping, Dean of the College of Fine Arts at FJNU.
