A total of 27 disciplines from Fujian Normal University (FNU) have been listed in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Best Chinese Subjects Ranking (BCSR), released on October 15. This achievement places FNU 51st among all universities nationwide, 4th among non-"Double First-Class" universities, 8th among normal universities in China, and 1st among Fujian’s provincial universities in terms of the number of listed disciplines.

The result marks another notable achievement for FNU in the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan, following the university’s full inclusion in the main lists of four prestigious global rankings: QS, U.S. News, ShanghaiRanking, and THE.

FNU’s strong disciplines hold a substantial lead in this year’s ranking. Four disciplines are listed as China’s top-tier disciplines—defined as those ranked within the top 12% in the BCSR—accounting for 50% of such disciplines among Fujian’s provincial universities. Compared with last year, FNU’s total number of ranked disciplines climbed nine places nationally, two places among non-"Double First-Class" universities, and one place among normal universities, with 13 disciplines moving up in their individual rankings.

According to ShanghaiRanking’s official website, the BCSR adopts the disciplinary scope specified in the Catalogue of Disciplines and Majors for Postgraduate Education (2022), issued by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education. While the ranking covers all universities with postgraduate degree-granting authorization in relevant disciplines by the end of 2025, only universities ranked in the top 50% of each discipline are published. This year’s list includes 100 first-level disciplines and five professional degree categories, with a total of 5,343 disciplinary programs from 531 universities making the ranking.
