On October 8, at the invitation of Fujian Normal University (FNU), Patrick Lin, grandson of Lin Ching-jun—the first Chinese president of Fukien Christian University (FCU), an important predecessor of FNU—returned to campus for a visit. University leaders Zheng Jiajian and Chen Xiaohong met with the guest. Heads of the Party and Administration Office, the FNU Alumni Association, the Admissions and Examinations Office, and Concord University College attended the event.
President Zheng Jiajian extended a warm welcome to Patrick Lin on behalf of FNU. He noted that Mr. Lin Ching-jun had presided over FCU for nearly two decades beginning in 1928, and that his original aspiration of promoting education and nurturing talent, together with his dedication to education, deserved to be remembered and carried forward. President Zheng added that FNU has always cherished the educational heritage of FCU and warmly welcomes Mr. Lin Ching-jun’s descendants to visit campus regularly and to continue paying attention to and supporting FNU’s development. During the meeting, university leaders briefed the guest on FNU’s history and development.
Patrick Lin expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and his willingness to donate precious documents and materials related to Mr. Lin Ching-jun to the university. He expressed the hope that more faculty, students, and alumni would learn about the educational achievements of Fukien Christian University and Mr. Lin Ching-jun, so that the educational spirit of the predecessors could be more widely passed on across the campus.
During the visit, Patrick Lin toured the university’s Old Photo Gallery and Biological Specimen Museum, and inspected preparations for the construction of FNU’s History Museum. Accompanied by officials from the FNU Alumni Association and Concord University College, he later visited Mr. Weng Maidong, Executive Vice Chairman of the Fukien Christian University Alumni Association.
